Overview

The LiPo Battery for AR.Drone 2.0 Quadcopter is an original 1000 mAh capacity 11.1 V lithium-polymer battery from Parrot that provides up to 12 minutes of flying time. It features a Protection Circuit Module (PCM) designed to protect the battery from overcharging, excessive discharge rates and short circuits. This battery is also compatible with the AR.Drone, but does not work with the original Drone 1 charger.

Overview

The blue Rolling Spider MiniDrone from Parrot can fly, roll along the floor, climb walls, and even traverse the ceiling. It is a 5.5"-diameter mini quadcopter that includes a pair of removable wheels for added fun. No special controller is required - the Rolling Spider is operated by a mobile app and your smartphone. Simply tilt your device to maneuver the MiniDrone. A sophisticated multi-sensor flight computer lets you perform 360s, U-turns, flips, barrel rolls, and more without stalling or loosing stability.

The Rolling Spider has a top speed of around 11 mph and a Bluetooth wireless range of about 66'. The battery is removable and will give you up to 8 minutes per charge (6 minutes with the wheels). You can recharge it with USB or a separately available charger.

The wireless link uses Bluetooth 4.0 LE (lower energy), and requires a mobile device with this capability. It can be controlled from the free MiniDrones FreeFlight 3 app for iOS and Android - Windows support expected soon - or hackers can develop custom software using the SDK (software development kit) available from Parrot.

Once the Rolling Spider's booted up and ready to fly, a pair of LED "eyes" turn green letting you know you're good to go.

Perform Aerial Acrobatics

Flips, barrel rolls, and more are all possible thanks to the MiniDrones FreeFlight 3 app. With this app you can:

Perform half- and u-turns in one swipe
Do front and rear loops in one click
With its removable wheels, it runs from floor to ceiling and walls

Safety First: The propellers are designed to automatically cut-off in the event of a collision for safe indoor flying

Weighs 1.9 Ounces: The MiniDrone by itself weighs 1.9 ounces while the full assembly with wheels weighs 2.3 ounces

Computerized Stabilization System

The Linux based flight computer takes inputs from multiple sensors to keep the aircraft safely in the air regardless of twists and turns. Sensors include:

A 3-axis gyroscope to determine if the MiniDrone is level or not
A 3-axis accelerometer that records changes in speed
A pressure sensor to obtain altitude data
An ultrasonic sensor to increase precision when flying close to the ground
A vertical video camera shooting 60 fps to measure speed and direction by comparing the new image to the previous one

Free-fall Take-off Mode: The engines start automatically when you drop it (the MiniDrone must be switched on)

Take Snapshots: With the vertical camera you can take snapshots at 0.3-megapixel resolution using a photo button in the FreeFligt 3 app. They are stored internally in the Rolling Spider - which has memory for several hundred - and can be retrieved using the app

Overview

More than just an RC car, the white Jumping Sumo MiniDrone from Parrot can perform acrobatics including half- and U-turns, cruise at up to 4.5 miles per hours, and jump up to 31". It is controlled using the Parrot FreeFlight 3 app with a smartphone or other Wi-Fi enabled mobile device (available separately). A built-in 640 x 480 resolution, 15 fps camera allows you to see a first-person view as the Jumping Sumo rovers around. Plus, a USB port on top allows you to connect a flash drive to make a video recording of your adventures. Two wheel settings allow you to choose between a wide stance for speed and stability or a narrow stance for maneuverability.

Jumps up to 31"

The Jumping Sumo can roll, rush, zig-zag, circle, and make 90° turns - and is able to make half- and U-turns in less than a second. It offers three control modes:

Jumper Jumps up to 31" in height and length, landing on its wheels
Kicker: A spring enables it to push objects in its path
Auto-Balance: Balancing a la a Segway, with the tail at a 54° angle

Controlled with FreeFlight 3 App: No special remote is required. The Jumping Sumo is controlled with the FreeFlight 3 app for iOS and Android, with support for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 expected soon. With the app you can operate manually or select from a collection of aerobatic tricks. A "road plan" enables you to program a sequence with acrobatics. When you access the app, the sequence appears amongst the pre-defined tricks for your Jumping Sumo

Wi-Fi Connectivity: The Jumping Sumo tethers to the mobile device controlling it using 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and features a range of up to 164'. No separate router or wireless network is required - simply form an ad hoc connection between the Jumping Sumo and the smartphone

Two Wheel Settings: Open the wheels to the wide position for the greatest stability and speed. Close them for enhanced agility and the freedom to navigate tight spaces. The embedded operating system helps ensure straight paths and tight turns

Built-in Wide Angle Camera: Get a first-person view of what the Jumping Sumo sees beamed to your smartphone. With 640 x 480 resolution video captured at 15 fps, it is also possible to record what the camera sees by connecting a separately available flash drive to the MiniDrone's USB port

Customizable Sound Effects: Depending on your driving, the Jumping Sumo expresses its mood with customizable sound animations

LED Indicator Eyes: A pair of LED "eyes" on the front turn green to indicate the Jumping Sumo is ready for action. If not, the will be red

Safety First: The Jumping Sumo automatically detects if it has been picked up and will not jump - the LED eyes turn red

Overview

The AR.Drone 2.0 Quadcopter and Battery Kit is a kit from B&H that features the blue and orange version of the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Quadcopter and a spare Parrot LiPo Battery that provides up to 12 minutes of flying time. The AR.Drone 2.0 is an RC quad-rotor helicopter that features an integrated 720p video camera for first-person view (FPV) flights. A low-latency QVGA (320 x 240) resolution Wi-Fi signal from the camera provides a live video downlink to a smartphone or other Wi-Fi-enabled mobile device running iOS or Android. Video and photos from the camera can either be saved to the smartphone or recorded to a USB flash drive connected to the AR.Drone 2.0 itself.

In addition to FPV, a mobile device is also required for control of the aircraft. Parrot provides the AR.FreeFlight app available for free download from the iOS Apps Store and the Android Play Store. Alternatively, SDKs are available from Parrot to help code wizards design their own softare to customize the AR.Drone 2.0's capabilities. The wireless range for the AR.Drone 2.0's Wi-Fi system extends up to 165' (50 m).

The AR.Drone 2.0 features two hull configurations. An "Indoor Hull" that incorporates removable prop guards designed to provide additional safety, and an "Outdoor Hull", without prop guards for a lower weight profile and better aerial performance.
